On Second Thought…
Screen Gems — By AltoidMan on March 16, 2010 5:53 PMHave you ever dated anyone who changed their mind? Seriously. Doesn’t it drive you insane? I mean one minute they are absolutely sure about where they want to eat only to change their mind when you pull into the parking lot. Or they change clothes 100 times in an hour just to go to the store. It’s bananas. B.a.n.a.n.a.s.
Disney sure fits this definition lately. I mean, they have leaked several reports about who is cast in what major role only to find out the actor really isn’t cast and the role is still pending. Two major ones are Spider-Man and Captain America. To be fair, Cap was never officially named, but they were heavily leaning in the direction of John Krasinski. Apparently that wasn’t as solid as John would like it to be.
The other oh-so-close-but-not-quite-there-yet role of Spider-Man was to go to Zac Efron. Thankfully, nothing has been signed. This is a sign that perhaps, maybe, just maybe, Disney is listening to the fans on this one who do not want to see High School Musical Boy ruin our entire childhood.
There have been some more names added to the audition list of Captain America. The two most notable are Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillippe. I like Phillippe as an actor. He’s actually impressed me many times. He has a good, clean cut look to him and his pursed lips will certainly stand out while in costume. As for Tatum….he’s better than Vin Diesel. Yes, that’s a compliment.
Spidey Still Up In The Air
Since word of Efron being cast was released, those in charge of the movie have decided to put an air tight lid on the proceedings. Efron gave a quick interview on Academy Awards night saying he hopes he is still in the running. I would say that went from a firm offer to a soft-serve ice cream cone in a matter of days. Rumor has it Efron and Disney both verbally agreed to the deal, but no actual contract has been drawn up. I’m crossing my fingers for a re-cast. Efron shouldn’t be allowed to ruin Jonny Quest AND Spidey for me.
More About Captain America
In some exciting news about Cap, the name of the female lead has been announced. Ok, to be more exact, the character name has been released. Her name will be Peggy Carter. Several actors have auditioned for the role including Keira Knightey, Alice Eve, and Emily Blunt. My hopes are on Knightley. Why? She’s gorgeous and she can act. Period.
It was also announced the role of Red Skull has gone to Hugo Weaving. Who? Hugo Weaving!
Trust me this is a good thing. He’s a great actor, he’s ugly as sin, and he will be a great contrast to whatever pretty boy they cast as Captain America. For reference, he was Megatron in Transformers. Or at least his voice was.
So who will play Captain America? It’s still undecided at this point. Krasinski is listed on the IMDB site, but any other sources say it is between him and four others, which include Mike Vogel, Garrett Hedlund, Wilson Bethel, and Chris Evans. I hope they decide soon. I want to know who is going to be kissing my next girlfriend, Kiera!
