Where’s your stuntman now, Sinclair!?!
Tribal Council — By Eric White on November 5, 2009 at 2:11 AMOur 17th Coloring Challenge is a piece that I first saw…I think a year ago. I knew from the minute I saw it that I HAD to post it as a challenge. It took a while to get around to it but I’m more than thrilled to finally have it posted. One of my favorite artists, Steve Bryant, gave us an amazing Rocketeer image in his crisp classic that I just can’t get enough of. It’s been up for a couple weeks now and we’ve gotten two great submissions!!
First post was by a familiar & favorite name on HueDoo, Kevin Conley. His pallet works well and render are just perfect for me. REALLY nice work. One other element he worked in was a white framing border all around the image which, as Aconic mentioned in his critique posted in the thread, gives it a poster-type effect. Kevin mentioned in his post that the background might be a bit too warm and I think I agree. Kind of looses the flames of the jet pack a little…but on the whole I think it works good. Another amazing page of colors by Kevin.
Next up to post a finished colored page was Aconic. Another great render and pallet choice here. He went with a slightly more saturated set of hues which I don’t mind at all. And…is that a HiFi Helper I see there in the sky behind our rocket strapped hero!? Love it!!
The Steve Bryant, Rocketeer Coloring Challenge will, of course, stay available indefinitely so if you haven’t had the chance to take a shot at coloring it I encourage you head over, download the art and get it on your schedule. Also take a minute to leave a little feedback on what’s already up. It really does help artists improve by finding out by viewers what works and what doesn’t.
I just this evening got in my email the art for our next Coloring Challenge and believe me…you don’t want to miss that!! This time next week…you’ll see it!
Before I get out of here today I wanted to take a minute to talk about an awesome new project that just kicked off this week. Tyler James has created a Wordpress Blog site for a new creative challenge called The 30 Characters Challenge. Here’s the run down.
The Challenge: Create 30 new characters in 30 days- one for every day of the month of November.
Why: Because creating characters is fun and the world needs new characters.
When: Starting November 1st, 2009. Ending November 30, 2009.
I’ve joined in this creative en devour along with I believe 25 other artists. The submissions are looking great!! I love challenges like this. I’ve decided to only ink some and drop some simple colors on others. Through day number 4 I’m thrilled with what I’m producing and seeing. I encourage everyone to stop by and check out all the characters that are being created. Leave us some comments and let us know what you think. It can be found at http://30characters.wordpress.com/
Well that’s it for this week’s Tribal Council. Next week is looking to be a big one with all the new posts, new characters and new Coloring Challenge. Thanks for reading. See you soon.
