Welcome to the weekend/Labor Day edition on the Tribla Council!!  It’s been a BIG week on HueDoo.com so get ready for a column FULL of art!!  We welcomed all the new Tribe members from Estrella Mountain Community College’s Photoshop for Comics class to the forums and are starting to see the homework assignments get posted.  Some of the first assignments we’ve seen posted is flatting!

The DC Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics

One of the pieces of art used is a Robin that was donated to us by HiFi’s good friend (and current artist on DC’s RUN) Freddie Williams II!  This was our very first Coloring Challenge posted way back in May of 2008.  Be sure to get over to check out the posts and give the students a little feedback.  I know it’s always helpful to me to have people give constructive criticism on my work. This week, also out from Freddie Williams II is his new book, The DC Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics.  I got my copy in the mail yesterday from Amazon.  I’m only a few chapters in but I’ve already learned some cool tricks and it’s looking like its going to be a great book. I’ve been waiting on this book since when I first heard Freddie was writing it way back in 2007. I reccomend you order it asap!

This week on the forums we’ve had a TON of amazing artists posting work.  I’ve pretty much blocked out this entire issue of the Tribal Council to spot light some of that art.

First up is our great friend (and product reviewer here on MDC…see? Wacom Cintiq ) Ross Hughes posted some pages that he’s been working on lately. Here is a piece that he colored as part of a commission.  This it one of the nicest pieces he’s posted so far and he got some great feedback from Brian.  There’s nice depth, the render seems spot on and I really enjoy the color pallet that’s used.  Great job Ross!!

He’s also posted this piece where he’s trying out some motion blur effects.  It’s a cool image! And I think the motion blurs work out nice.  Might need a little tweaking…but it’s a fun piece.

Also this week we had some sample pages posted from the upcoming webcomic Red’s Planet by Eddie Pittman.

I think these pages turned out great and I can’t wait to see more (including a printed copy which I intend to pick up). Eddie also posted the first 6 pages of Red’s Planet’s first issue in the Pixel Shrine. They look great!! Thanks for posting Eddie and good luck with the story!  Red’s Plant launches in November with new posts on Monday, Wednesday & Friday but you can see some preview pages today at his website: www.RedsPlanet.com

HueDoo’s good friend Kevin Conley posted some more amazing work this week!!  This time around we got this killer Green Arrow.  The rendering here is pretty intense!!  Nice work Kevin!

Sweet! Since reading and applying the artistic principles in Hi-Fi Color for Comics and attending the forum challenges on Huedoo.com I’ve seen a change for the better in my color art. I appreciate the mention with Ross, and Eddie!
