Hulk Smash!!! Now in Color!!

Its been a couple weeks since I’ve had a wrap up of all the art that’s being posted on Hue-Doo.com in the Pixel Shrine.  I figure its about time we catch up with some art!  Let’s take a look at Hi-Fi Color For Comics Coloring Challenge #16: Hulking out with Tommy Patterson.  I love this piece of art and the colors that we’ve been seeing are looking great!

One of my favorite forum members, Kevin Conely, was the first to post.  His render here looks clean and polished.  Kevin knows I love his work.  Nice going!

Then we had a post by Aconic.  Hulk is bringing back his classic, 80’s bright green skin tone.  I love it!! Its funny how just a slight difference in value can completely change how you feel about an image.

And finally we had what I think is my favorite so far of the Challenge #16 submissions. Steve! kicked my ass with a classic Gray Hulk!!  Of all of them…he incorporated the inked shadows probably the best.  He placed the scene at night and used the army jeep’s headlights as the brightest light source.  The effect is great.  There’s great depth in the background and those missiles look perfect.  Great work Steve! I hope to see a lot more colored images from you.

As always the coloring challenges will remain up so if you’re just getting around to it or are planning to work on it some time in the future it’ll still be there.  And look forward to a new challenge to be posted in the next week or so.  The art is by one of my favorite artists and trust me, you’re NOT going to want to miss it.

Here’s a sneak peek!!

The postings from the Photoshop for Comics class at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, AZ are absolutely flying in.  The students work is looking good! I hope everyone is as happy with their work as I am.  Here’s a piece from the flatting homework assignment from Chapter 2 of HiFi Color for Comics post by Zach Reddy (aka: Bandobras).  I think this one, of all of them, looks really close to how I would probably flat this page if I was assigned this.  Great color choices.

As you can read in HiFi Color for Comics, one of the most important things in coloring is understanding how to render basic shapes.  Chadsity posted this image from the homework assignment.  Nice work!!

I do want to mention quickly that we’ve also been seeing a lot of critiques and replies to peoples posted images lately. I appreciate everyone who’s taken time to look at the art and make some comments.  Thank you. Thank you.  That feedback is absolutely invaluable to learning and aspiring artists.

Well I think that’s pretty much it for this week.  Just a ginormous load of art.  Great work everyone.  Thanks for posting!!  Please keep coloring and keep posting.  Our community of colorists is growing every day thanks to all your amazing work.

I’ve been improved a whole lot in using Photoshop since I took my Photoshop Class . Brian is a great instructor , I learned a lot from him. Hope that at the end of the course I’ll be able to make something awesome like those Hulks above.

I agree with you saying that a little color change can make a difference because it really can! Especially with the gray hulk, I really like that he did it at night, it’s just amazing the things you can and are able to do with Photoshop!
