Moore Signs Off On Echo Movie Deal
Screen Gems — By AltoidMan on July 21, 2009 5:01 PMIt seems as though the comic book industry may be thriving once again. No, your local comic book dealers aren’t seeing big profits, but Hollywood execs seem content to cash ion on every title they can get their hands on in this tough economic time. Terry Moore is the latest comic book creator to put together a big movie deal. His almost new creation Echo has been picked up by Lloyd Levin, the same man who brought us Hellboy and Watchmen.
I think this is a sign of the times for Hollywood. After the huge success of The Dark Knight and Iron Man, Hollywood finally sees comic books as a way to entertain mass audiences. Their fan bases are already solidified and, let’s face it, even the critics of these films flock to the silver screen Mecca to view the disaster or marvel at the brilliance of the movies they create.
Echo hasn’t been around very long. Moore is more famous for his popular Strangers In Paradise series which caters to a large female audience. Much like Strangers, Echo has a strong female character with the ability to use force as powerful as a nuclear bomb. The deal is reportedly a six figure deal which, for Moors, is a feather is his cap that is long overdue.
The other good thing about this deal is Levin is involved. He will at least do the film justice by backing it with the proper money. I’m not a fan of Hellboy or Hellboy II, but they do look good. There’s no denying it. As for Watchmen, it was a bit violent, but it was an effective film nonetheless.
I’m looking forward to seeing Echo on the big screen. I hope this is the beginning of good things for Moore. He has bucked the normal trends of comic book execs for years and done his own thing. Maybe this will once again open the door for independent minds who believe in artistic integrity instead of corporate marketing to fuel their ideas.
No announcement has been made as to when Echo will hit theaters.
